I was listening to a talk recently by an acupuncturist and he was describing how when he hears someone complaining about a headache he asks about their digestive system.
On the surface that sounds weird but all parts of our bodies are connected to everything else. This means that you when you get a symptom in one part of the body it may be being caused by another seemingly unrelated body part. Affecting one part of your body can affect other areas as well.
The acupuncturist went on to describe how western medicine is really good at stopping you from dying but it doesn’t fix the underlying cause in most cases. It focuses on a specific symptom or issue, it rarely focuses on prevention.
Eastern medicine is all about treating body as a whole entity and not individual parts. It focuses on prevention while Western medicine treats individual issues but does not focus on prevention very well.
Businesses are like human bodies, you have an issue in one area of your business and you can see symptoms in other areas. Generally most business owners will treat the symptoms or issue staring them in the face. It’s easy to miss the underlying cause of the original problem so it continues to fester and build until it can be a massive problem, just like what can happen in our bodies.
Everything is interconnected in a business and only focusing on specific problems means you can miss the big picture and you can end up with a very sick business.
Systems are the central nervous system of a business. They make a business function, grow and thrive but like nerves in the human body incorrect or faulty systems can affect your entire business. Addressing individual symptoms can hide what is really wrong and in the long run can be catastrophic.
It’s important to know that all systems in your business are related to each other and changes in one system can affect other areas of your business. Nothing in your business is an island…everything is connected.
Diagnosing the underlying cause of the pain before you start to treat it can be critical to stopping small issues becoming major problems. In some cases, only fixing individual symptoms can actually cause your business more harm than good.
If you are experiencing blockages and pain in your business get help from someone who can find and treat the underlying cause and not just treat the symptoms.
